1And the Lord spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sina, in the tabernacle of witness, on the first day of the second month, in the second year of their departure from the land of Egypt, saying,
1Yahweh spoke to Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the Tent of Meeting, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they had come out of the land of Egypt, saying,
2Take the sum of all the congregation of Israel according to their kindred, according to the houses of their fathers' families, according to their number by their names, according to their heads: every male
2“Take a census of all the congregation of the children of Israel, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, every male, one by one,
3from twenty years old and upwards, every one that goes forth in the forces of Israel, take account of them with their strength; you and Aaron take account of them .
3from twenty years old and upward, all who are able to go out to war in Israel. You and Aaron shall count them by their divisions.
4And with you there shall be each one of the rulers according to the tribe of each: they shall be according to the houses of their families.
4With you there shall be a man of every tribe, each one head of his fathers’ house.
5And these are the names of the men who shall be present with you; of the tribe of Ruben, Elisur the son of Sediur.
5These are the names of the men who shall stand with you: Of Reuben: Elizur the son of Shedeur.
6Of Symeon, Salamiel the son of Surisadai.
6Of Simeon: Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.
7Of Juda, Naasson the son of Aminadab.

8Of Issachar, Nathanael the son of Sogar.

11Of Benjamin, Abidan the son of Gadeoni.

16These were famous men of the congregation, heads of the tribes according to their families: these are heads of thousands in Israel.
16These are those who were called of the congregation, the princes of the tribes of their fathers; they were the heads of the thousands of Israel.
17And Moses and Aaron took these men who were called by name.

18And they assembled all the congregation on the first day of the month in the second year; and they registered them after their lineage, after their families, after the number of their names, from twenty years old and upwards, every male according to their number:
18They assembled all the congregation together on the first day of the second month; and they declared their ancestry by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, one by one.
19as the Lord commanded Moses, so they were numbered in the wilderness of Sina.
19As Yahweh commanded Moses, so he counted them in the wilderness of Sinai.
20And the sons of Ruben the firstborn of Israel according to their kindred, according to their divisions, according to the houses of their families, according to the number of their names, according to their heads, were—all males from twenty years old and upward, every one that went out with the host—
20The children of Reuben, Israel’s firstborn, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, one by one, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war:
21the numbering of themof the tribe of Ruben, was forty-six thousand and four hundred.
21those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Reuben, were forty-six thousand five hundred.
22For the children of Symeon according to their kindred, according to their divisions, according to the housesof their families, according to the number of their names, according to their polls, all males from twenty years old and upward, every one that goes out with the host,
22Of the children of Simeon, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, those who were counted of it, according to the number of the names, one by one, every male from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war:
23the numbering of themof the tribe of Symeon, was fifty-nine thousand and three hundred.
23those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Simeon, were fifty-nine thousand three hundred.
24For the sons of Juda according to their kindred, according to their divisions, according to the houses of their families, according to the number of their names, according to their polls, all males from twenty years old and upward, every one that goes forth with the host,
24Of the children of Gad, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war:
25the numbering of themof the tribe of Juda, was seventy-four thousand and six hundred .
25those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Gad, were forty-five thousand six hundred fifty.
26For the sons of Issachar according to their kindred, according to their divisions, according to the houses of their families, according to the number of their names, according to their polls, all males from twenty years old and upward, every one that goes forth with the host,
26Of the children of Judah, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war:
27the numbering of themof the tribe of Issachar, was fifty-four thousand and four hundred.
27those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Judah, were seventy-four thousand six hundred.
28For the sons of Zabulon according to their kindred, according to their divisions, according to the houses of their families, according to the number of their names, according to their polls, all males from twenty years old and upward, every one that goes out with the host,
28Of the children of Issachar, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war:
29the numbering of themof the tribe of Zabulon, was fifty-seven thousand and four hundred.
29those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Issachar, were fifty-four thousand four hundred.
30For the sons of Joseph, the sons of Ephraim, according to their kindred, according to their divisions, according to the houses of their families, according to the number of their names, according to their polls, all males from twenty years old and upward, every one that goes out with the host,

41the numbering of themof the tribe of Aser, was forty and one thousand and five hundred.

42For the sons of Nephthali according to their kindred, according to their divisions, according to the houses of their families, according to the number of their names, according to their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, every one who goes forth with the host,
42Of the children of Naphtali, their generations, by their families, by their fathers’ houses, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war:
43the numbering of themof the tribe of Nephthali, was fifty-three thousand and four hundred.
43those who were counted of them, of the tribe of Naphtali, were fifty-three thousand four hundred.
44This is the numbering which Moses and Aaron and the rulers of Israel, being twelve men, conducted: there was a man for each tribe, they were according to the tribe of the houses of their family.
44These are those who were counted, whom Moses and Aaron counted, and the twelve men who were princes of Israel, each one for his fathers’ house.
45And the whole numbering of the children of Israel with their host from twenty years old and upward, every one that goes out to set himself in battle array in Israel, came to
45So all those who were counted of the children of Israel by their fathers’ houses, from twenty years old and upward, all who were able to go out to war in Israel—
46six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty.
46all those who were counted were six hundred three thousand five hundred fifty.
47But the Levites of the tribe of their family were not counted among the children of Israel.
47But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not counted among them.
48And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
48For Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,
49See, you shall not muster the tribe of Levi, and you shall not take their numbers, in the midst of the children of Israel.
49“Only the tribe of Levi you shall not count, neither shall you take a census of them among the children of Israel;
50And do you set the Levites over the tabernacle of witness, and over all its furniture, and over all things that are in it; and they shall do service in it, and they shall encamp round about the tabernacle.
50but appoint the Levites over the Tabernacle of the Testimony, and over all its furnishings, and over all that belongs to it. They shall carry the tabernacle and all its furnishings; and they shall take care of it, and shall encamp around it.
51And in removing the tabernacle , the Levites shall take it down, and in pitching the tabernacle they shall set it up: and let the stranger that advances [to touch it] die.
51When the tabernacle is to move, the Levites shall take it down; and when the tabernacle is to be set up, the Levites shall set it up. The stranger who comes near shall be put to death.
52And the children of Israel shall encamp, every man in his own order, and every man according to his company, with their host.
52The children of Israel shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, according to their divisions.
53But let the Levites encamp round about the tabernacle of witness fronting it, and [so] there shall be no sin among the children of Israel; and the Levites themselves shall keep the guard of the tabernacle of witness.
53But the Levites shall encamp around the Tabernacle of the Testimony, that there may be no wrath on the congregation of the children of Israel. The Levites shall be responsible for the Tabernacle of the Testimony.”
54And the children of Israel did according to all that the Lord commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they .
54Thus the children of Israel did. According to all that Yahweh commanded Moses, so they did.
