1(107) Alleluia. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his mercy [endures] for ever.
1Praise ye the Lord. O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.
2Let them say [so] who have been redeemed by the Lord, whom he has redeemed from the hand of the enemy;
2Who can utter the mighty acts of the Lord? who can shew forth all his praise?
3and gathered them out of the countries, from the east, and west, and north, and south.
3Blessed are they that keep judgment, and he that doeth righteousness at all times.
4They wandered in the wilderness in a dry land; they found no way to a city of habitation.
4Remember me, O Lord, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit me with thy salvation;
5Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.
5That I may see the good of thy chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance.
6Then they cried to the Lord in their affliction, and he delivered them out of their distresses.
6We have sinned with our fathers, we have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.
7And he guided them into a straight path, that they might go to a city of habitation.
7Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt; they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea.
8Let them acknowledge to the Lord his mercies, and his wonderful works to the children of men.
8Nevertheless he saved them for his name’s sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known.
9For he satisfies the empty soul, and fills the hungry [soul] with good things,
9He rebuked the Red sea also, and it was dried up: so he led them through the depths, as through the wilderness.
10[even] them that sit in darkness and the shadow of death, fettered in poverty and iron;
10And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them, and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.
11because they rebelled against the words of God, and provoked the counsel of the Most High.
11And the waters covered their enemies: there was not one of them left.
12So their heart was brought low with troubles; they were weak, and there was no helper.
12Then believed they his words; they sang his praise.
13Then they cried to the Lord in their affliction, and he saved them out of their distresses.
13They soon forgat his works; they waited not for his counsel:
14And he brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke their bonds asunder.
14But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness, and tempted God in the desert.
15Let them acknowledge to the Lord his mercies, and his wonders to the children of men.
15And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul.
16For he broke to pieces the brazen gates, and crushed the iron bars.
16They envied Moses also in the camp, and Aaron the saint of the Lord.
17He helped them out of the way of their iniquity; for they were brought low because of their iniquities.
17The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan, and covered the company of Abiram.
18Their soul abhorred all meat; and they drew near to the gates of death.
18And a fire was kindled in their company; the flame burned up the wicked.
19Then they cried to the Lord in their affliction, and he saved them out of their distresses.
19They made a calf in Horeb, and worshipped the molten image.
20He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them out of their destructions.
20Thus they changed their glory into the similitude of an ox that eateth grass.
21Let them acknowledge to the Lord his mercies, and his wonderful works to the children of men.
21They forgat God their saviour, which had done great things in Egypt;
22And let them offer to him the sacrifice of praise, and proclaim this works with exultation.
22Wondrous works in the land of Ham, and terrible things by the Red sea.
23They that go down to the sea in ships, doing business in many waters;
23Therefore he said that he would destroy them, had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach, to turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.
24these [men] have seen the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep.
24Yea, they despised the pleasant land, they believed not his word:
25He speaks, and the stormy wind arises, and its waves are lifted up.
25But murmured in their tents, and hearkened not unto the voice of the Lord.
26They go up to the heavens, and go down to the depths; their soul melts because of troubles.
26Therefore he lifted up his hand against them, to overthrow them in the wilderness:
27They are troubled, they stagger as a drunkard, and all their wisdom is swallowed up.
27To overthrow their seed also among the nations, and to scatter them in the lands.
28Then they cry to the Lord in their affliction, and he brings them out of their distresses.
28They joined themselves also unto Baal–peor, and ate the sacrifices of the dead.
29And he commands the storm, and it is calmed into a gentle breeze, and its waves are still.
29Thus they provoked him to anger with their inventions: and the plague brake in upon them.
30And they are glad, because they are quiet; and he guides them to their desire haven.
30Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgment: and so the plague was stayed.
31Let them acknowledge to the Lord his mercies, and his wonderful works to the children of men.
31And that was counted unto him for righteousness unto all generations for evermore.
32Let them exalt him in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the seat of the elders.
32They angered him also at the waters of strife, so that it went ill with Moses for their sakes:
33He turns rivers into a desert, and streams of water into a dry land;
33Because they provoked his spirit, so that he spake unadvisedly with his lips.
34a fruitful land into saltness, for the wickedness of them that dwell in it.
34They did not destroy the nations, concerning whom the Lord commanded them:
35He turns a wilderness into pools of water, and a dry land into streams of water.
35But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their works.
36And there he causes the hungry to dwell, and they establish for themselves cities of habitation.
36And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them.
37And they sow fields, and plant vineyards, and they yield fruit of increase.
37Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils,
38And he blesses them, and they multiply exceedingly, and he diminishes not the number of their cattle.
38And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters, whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan: and the land was polluted with blood.
39Again they become few, and are brought low, by the pressure of evils and pain.
39Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions.
40Contempt is poured upon their princes, and he causes them to wander in a desert and trackless land.
40Therefore was the wrath of the Lord kindled against his people, insomuch that he abhorred his own inheritance.
41But he helps the poor out of poverty, and makes [him] families as a flock.
41And he gave them into the hand of the heathen; and they that hated them ruled over them.
42The upright shall see and rejoice; and all iniquity shall stop her mouth.
42Their enemies also oppressed them, and they were brought into subjection under their hand.
43Who is wise, and will observe these things, and understand the mercies of the Lord?
43Many times did he deliver them; but they provoked him with their counsel, and were brought low for their iniquity.
