1(127) A Song of Degrees. Except the Lord build the house, they that build labor in vain: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman watches in vain.
1A Song of Ascents. When Yahweh brought back those who returned to Zion, we were like those who dream.
2It is vain for you to rise early: you⌃ rise up after resting, you⌃ that eat the bread of grief; while he gives sleep to his beloved.
2Then our mouth was filled with laughter, and our tongue with singing. Then they said among the nations, “Yahweh has done great things for them.
3Behold, the inheritance of the Lord, children, the reward of the fruit of the womb.
3Yahweh has done great things for us, and we are glad.
4As arrows in the hand of a mighty man; so are the children of those who were outcasts.
4Restore our fortunes again, Yahweh, like the streams in the Negev.
5Blessed is the man who shall satisfy his desire with them: they shall not be ashamed when they shall speak to their enemies in the gates.
5Those who sow in tears will reap in joy.
