1(18) For the end, [a Psalm] of David, the servant of the Lord; [the words] which he spoke to the Lord, [even] the words of this Song, in the day in which the Lord delivered him out the hand of all his enemies, and out the hand of Saul: and he said: I will love you, O Lord, my strength.
1Hear the right, O Lord, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips.
2The Lord is my firm support, and my refuge, and my deliverer; my God is my helper, I will hope in him; [he is] my defender, and the horn of my salvation, and my helper.
2Let my sentence come forth from thy presence; let thine eyes behold the things that are equal.
3I will call upon the Lord with praises, and I shall be saved from my enemies.
3Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.
4The pangs of death compassed me, and the torrents of ungodliness troubled me exceedingly.
4Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer.
5The pangs of hell came round about me: the snares of death prevented me.
5Hold up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not.
6And when I was afflicted I called upon the Lord, and cried to my God: he heard my voice out of this holy temple, and my cry shall enter before him, [even] into his ears.
6I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech.
7Then the earth shook and quaked, and the foundations of the mountains were disturbed, and were shaken, because God was angry with them .
7Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them.
8There went up a smoke in his wrath, and fire burst into a flame at his presence: coals were kindled at it.
8Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,
9And he bowed the heaven, and came down: and thick darkness was under his feet.
9From the wicked that oppress me, from my deadly enemies, who compass me about.
10And he mounted on cherubs and flew: he flew on the wings of winds.
10They are inclosed in their own fat: with their mouth they speak proudly.
11And he made darkness his secret place: round about him was his tabernacle, [even] dark water in the clouds of the air.
11They have now compassed us in our steps: they have set their eyes bowing down to the earth;
12At the brightness before him the clouds passed, hail and coals of fire.
12Like as a lion that is greedy of his prey, and as it were a young lion lurking in secret places.
13The Lord also thundered from heaven, and the Highest uttered his voice.
13Arise, O Lord, disappoint him, cast him down: deliver my soul from the wicked, which is thy sword:
14And he sent forth [his] weapons, and scattered them; and multiplied lightnings, and routed them.
14From men which are thy hand, O Lord, from men of the world, which have their portion in this life, and whose belly thou fillest with thy hid treasure: they are full of children, and leave the rest of their substance to their babes.
15And the springs of waters appeared, and the foundations of the world were exposed, at your rebuke, O Lord, at the blasting of the breath of your wrath.
15As for me, I will behold thy face in righteousness: I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with thy likeness.
