1(34) [A Psalm] of David, when he changed his countenance before Abimelech; and he let him go, and he departed. I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall be continually in my mouth.
1Rejoice in Yahweh, you righteous! Praise is fitting for the upright.
2My soul shall boast herself in the Lord: let the meek hear, and rejoice.
2Give thanks to Yahweh with the lyre. Sing praises to him with the harp of ten strings.
3Magnify you⌃ the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together.
3Sing to him a new song. Play skillfully with a shout of joy!
4I sought the Lord diligently, and he listened to me, and delivered me from all my sojournings.
4For Yahweh’s word is right. All his work is done in faithfulness.
5Draw near to him, and be enlightened: and your faces shall not [by any means] be ashamed.
5He loves righteousness and justice. The earth is full of the loving kindness of Yahweh.
6This poor man cried, and the Lord listened to him, and delivered him out of all his afflictions.
6By Yahweh’s word, the heavens were made: all their army by the breath of his mouth.
7The angel of the Lord will encamp round about them that fear him, and will deliver them.
7He gathers the waters of the sea together as a heap. He lays up the deeps in storehouses.
8Taste and see that the Lord is good: blessed is the man who hopes in him.
8Let all the earth fear Yahweh. Let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.
9Fear the Lord, all you⌃ his saints: for there is no lack to them that fear him.
9For he spoke, and it was done. He commanded, and it stood firm.
10The rich have become poor and hungry: but they that seek the Lord diligently shall not lack any good thing. Pause.
10Yahweh brings the counsel of the nations to nothing. He makes the thoughts of the peoples to be of no effect.
11Come, you⌃ children, hear me: I will teach you the fear of the Lord.
11The counsel of Yahweh stands fast forever, the thoughts of his heart to all generations.
12What man is there that desires life, loving to see good days?
12Blessed is the nation whose God is Yahweh, the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance.
13Keep your tongue from evil, and your lips from speaking guile.
13Yahweh looks from heaven. He sees all the sons of men.
14Turn away from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.
14From the place of his habitation he looks out on all the inhabitants of the earth,
15The eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears [are open] to their prayer:
15he who fashions all of their hearts; and he considers all of their works.
16but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil, to destroy their memorial from the earth. The righteous cried, and the Lord listened to them,
16There is no king saved by the multitude of an army. A mighty man is not delivered by great strength.
17and delivered them out of all their afflictions.
17A horse is a vain thing for safety, neither does he deliver any by his great power.
18The Lord is near to them that are of a contrite heart; and will save the lowly in spirit.
18Behold, Yahweh’s eye is on those who fear him, on those who hope in his loving kindness,
19Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but out of them all Lord will deliver them .
19to deliver their soul from death, to keep them alive in famine.
20He keeps all their bones: not one of them shall be broken.
20Our soul has waited for Yahweh. He is our help and our shield.
21The death of sinners is evil: and they that hate righteousness will go wrong.
21For our heart rejoices in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.
22The Lord will redeem the souls of his servants: and none of those that hope in him shall go wrong.
22Let your loving kindness be on us, Yahweh, since we have hoped in you.
