1(49) For the end, a Psalm for the sons of Core. Hear these words, all you⌃ nations, listen, all you⌃ that dwell upon the earth:
1Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.
2both the sons of mean men, and sons of [great] men; the rich and poor [man] together.
2Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.
3My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart shall bring [forth] understanding.
3God is known in her palaces for a refuge.
4I will incline my ear to a parable: I will open my riddle on the harp.
4For, lo, the kings were assembled, they passed by together.
5Therefore should I fear in the evil day? the iniquity of my heel shall compass me.
5They saw it, and so they marvelled; they were troubled, and hasted away.
6They that trust in their strength, and boast themselves in the multitude of their wealth—
6Fear took hold upon them there, and pain, as of a woman in travail.
7A brother does not redeem, shall a man redeem? he shall not give to God a ransom for himself,
7Thou breakest the ships of Tarshish with an east wind.
8or the price of the redemption of his soul, though he labor for ever,
8As we have heard, so have we seen in the city of the Lord of hosts, in the city of our God: God will establish it for ever. Selah.
9and live to the end, [so] that he should not see corruption.
9We have thought of thy lovingkindness, O God, in the midst of thy temple.
10When he shall see wise men dying, the fool and the senseless one shall perish together; and they shall leave their wealth to strangers.
10According to thy name, O God, so is thy praise unto the ends of the earth: thy right hand is full of righteousness.
11And their sepulchres are their houses for ever, [even] their tabernacles to all generations: they have called their lands after their own names.
11Let mount Zion rejoice, let the daughters of Judah be glad, because of thy judgments.
12And man being in honor, understands not: he is compared to the senseless cattle, and is like to them.
12Walk about Zion, and go round about her: tell the towers thereof.
13This their way is an offense to them: yet afterwards men will commend their sayings. Pause.
13Mark ye well her bulwarks, consider her palaces; that ye may tell it to the generation following.
14They have laid [them] as sheep in Hades; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning, and their help shall fail in Hades from their glory.
14For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death.
