1(57) For the end. Destroy not: by David, for a memorial, when he fled from the presence of Saul to the cave. Have mercy, upon me, O God, have mercy upon me: for my soul has trusted in you: and in the shadow of your wings will I hope, until the iniquity have passed away.
1Be merciful unto me, O God: for man would swallow me up; he fighting daily oppresseth me.
2I will cry to God most high; the God who has benefited me . Pause.
2Mine enemies would daily swallow me up: for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High.
3He sent from heaven and saved me; he gave to reproach them that trampled on me: God has sent forth his mercy and his truth;
3What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
4and he has delivered my soul from the midst of [lions']whelps: I lay down to sleep, [though] troubled. [As for] the sons of men, their teeth are arms and [missile] weapons, and their tongue a sharp sword.
4In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.
5Be you exalted, O God, above the heavens; and your glory above all the earth.
5Every day they wrest my words: all their thoughts are against me for evil.
6They have prepared snares for my feet, and have bowed down my soul: they have dug a pit before my face, and fallen into it [themselves]. Pause.
6They gather themselves together, they hide themselves, they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.
7My heart, O God, [is] ready, my heart [is] ready: I will sing, yes will sing psalms.
7Shall they escape by iniquity? in thine anger cast down the people, O God.
8Awake, my glory; awake, lute and harp: I will awake early.
8Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?
9O Lord, I will give thanks to you among the nations: I will sing to you among the Gentiles.
9When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me.
10For your mercy has been magnified even to the heavens, and your truth to the clouds.
10In God will I praise his word: in the Lord will I praise his word.
11Be you exalted, O God, above the heavens; and your glory above all the earth.
11In God have I put my trust: I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.
