1And Elius resumed and said,
1Elihu spake moreover, and said,
2What is this that thou thinkest to be according to right? who art thou that thou hast said, I am righteous before the Lord?
2Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God’s?
4I will answer thee, and thy three friends.
4I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.
5Look up to the sky and see; and consider the clouds, how high [they are] above thee.
5Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds which are higher than thou.
6If thou hast sinned, what wilt thou do? and if too thou hast transgressed much, what canst thou perform?
6If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?
7And suppose thou art righteous, what wilt thou give him? or what shall he receive of thy hand?
7If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?
8Thy ungodliness [may affect] a man who is like to thee; or thy righteousness a son of man.
8Thy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art; and thy righteousness may profit the son of man.
9They that are oppressed of a multitude will be ready to cry out; they will call for help because of the arm of many.
9By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.
10But none said, Where is God that made me, who appoints the night-watches;
10But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;
11who makes me to differ from the four-footed beasts of the earth, and from the birds of the sky?
11Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?
12There they shall cry, and none shall hearken, even because of the insolence of wicked men.
12There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men.
13For the Lord desires not to look on error, for he is the Almighty One.
13Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.
14He beholds them that perform lawless deeds, and he will save me: and do thou plead before him, if thou canst praise him, as it is [possible] even now.
14Although thou sayest thou shalt not see him, yet judgment is before him; therefore trust thou in him.
15For he is not [now] regarding his wrath, nor has he noticed severely any trespass.
15But now, because it is not so, he hath visited in his anger; yet he knoweth it not in great extremity:
16Yet Job vainly opens his mouth, in ignorance he multiplies words .
16Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplieth words without knowledge.
1And Elius further continued, and said,
1Elihu also proceeded, and said,
2Wait for me yet a little while, that I may teach thee: for there is yet speech in me.
2Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee that I have yet to speak on God’s behalf.
3Having fetched my knowledge from afar, and according to my works,
3I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.
4I will speak just things truly, and thou shalt not unjustly receive unjust words .
4For truly my words shall not be false: he that is perfect in knowledge is with thee.
5But know that the Lord will not cast off an innocent man: being mighty in strength of wisdom,
5Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength and wisdom.
6he will not by any means save alive the ungodly: and he will grant the judgment of the poor.
6He preserveth not the life of the wicked: but giveth right to the poor.
7He will not turn away his eyes from the righteous, but [they shall be] with kings on the throne: and he will establish them in triumph, and they shall be exalted.
7He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous: but with kings are they on the throne; yea, he doth establish them for ever, and they are exalted.
8But they that are bound in fetters shall be holden in cords of poverty.
8And if they be bound in fetters, and be holden in cords of affliction;
9And he shall recount to them their works, and their transgressions, for such will act with violence.
9Then he sheweth them their work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded.
10But he will hearken to the righteous: and he has said that they shall turn from unrighteousness.
10He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.
11If they should hear and serve [him], they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in honour.
11If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.
12But he preserves not the ungodly; because they are not willing to know the Lord, and because when reproved they were disobedient.
12But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge.
13And the hypocrites in heart will array wrath [against themselves]; they will not cry, because he has bound them.
13But the hypocrites in heart heap up wrath: they cry not when he bindeth them.
14Therefore let their soul die in youth, and their life be wounded by messengers [of death].
14They die in youth, and their life is among the unclean.
15Because they afflicted the weak and helpless: and he will vindicate the judgment of the meek.
15He delivereth the poor in his affliction, and openeth their ears in oppression.
16And he has also enticed thee out of the mouth of the enemy:
16Even so would he have removed thee out of the strait into a broad place, where there is no straitness; and that which should be set on thy table should be full of fatness.
17[there is] a deep gulf [and] a rushing stream beneath it, and thy table came down full of fatness. Judgment shall not fail from the righteous;
17But thou hast fulfilled the judgment of the wicked: judgment and justice take hold on thee.
18but there shall be wrath upon the ungodly, by reason of the ungodliness of the bribes which they received for iniquities.
18Because there is wrath, beware lest he take thee away with his stroke: then a great ransom cannot deliver thee.
19Let not [thy] mind willingly turn thee aside from the petition of the feeble that are in distress.
19Will he esteem thy riches? no, not gold, nor all the forces of strength.
20And draw not forth all the mighty [men] by night, so that the people should go up instead of them.
20Desire not the night, when people are cut off in their place.
21But take heed lest thou do that which is wrong: for of this thou hast made choice because of poverty.
21Take heed, regard not iniquity: for this hast thou chosen rather than affliction.
22Behold, the Mighty One shall prevail by his strength: for who is powerful as he is?
22Behold, God exalteth by his power: who teacheth like him?
23And who is he that examines his works? or who can say, He has wrought injustice?
23Who hath enjoined him his way? or who can say, Thou hast wrought iniquity?
24Remember that his works are great [beyond] those which men have attempted.
24Remember that thou magnify his work, which men behold.
25Every man has seen in himself, how many mortals are wounded.
25Every man may see it; man may behold it afar off.
26Behold, the Mighty One is great, and we shall not know [him]: the number of his years is even infinite.
26Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.
27And the drops of rain are numbered by him, and shall be poured out in rain to form a cloud.
27For he maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour thereof:
28The ancient [heavens] shall flow, and the clouds overshadow innumerable mortals: he has fixed a time to cattle, and they know the order of rest. [Yet] by all these things thy understanding is not astonished, neither is thy mind disturbed in [thy] body.
28Which the clouds do drop and distil upon man abundantly.
29And though one should understand the outspreadings of the clouds, [or] the measure of his tabernacle;
29Also can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, or the noise of his tabernacle?
30behold he will stretch his bow against him, and he covers the bottom of the sea.
30Behold, he spreadeth his light upon it, and covereth the bottom of the sea.
31For by them he will judge the nations: he will give food to him that has strength.
31For by them judgeth he the people; he giveth meat in abundance.
32He has hidden the light in [his] hands, and given charge concerning it to the interposing [cloud].
32With clouds he covereth the light; and commandeth it not to shine by the cloud that cometh betwixt.
33The Lord will declare concerning this [to] his friend: [but there is] a portion also for unrighteousness.
33The noise thereof sheweth concerning it, the cattle also concerning the vapour.
