Nehemiah 6:1–7:73

1Now it came to pass, when Sanaballat, and Tobias, and Gesam the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had built the wall, and [that] there was no opening left therein; ([but] hitherto I had not set up the doors on the gates;) 2that Sanaballat and Gesam sent to me, saying, Come and let us meet together in the villages in the plain of Ono. But they [were] plotting to do me mischief. 3So I sent messengers to them, saying, I am doing a great work, and I shall not be able to come down, lest the work should cease: as soon as I shall have finished it, I will come down to you. 4And they sent to me [again] to this effect; and I sent them [word] accordingly. 5Then Sanaballat sent his servant to me with an open letter in his hand. 6And in it was written, It has been reported among the Gentiles that thou and the Jews are planning to revolt: therefore thou art building the wall, and thou wilt be a king to them. 7And moreover thou has appointed prophets to thyself, that thou mightest dwell in Jerusalem as a king over Juda: and now these words will be reported to the king. Now then, come, let us take counsel together. 8And I sent to him, saying, It has not happened according to these words, [even] as thou sayest, for thou framest them falsely out of thy heart. 9For all were trying to alarm us, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from this work, and it shall not be done. Now therefore I have strengthened my hands. 10And I came into the house of Semei the son of Dalaia the Son of Metabeel, and he was shut up; and he said, Let us assemble together in the house of God, in the midst of it, and let us shut the doors of it; for they are coming by night to slay thee. 11And I said, Who is the man that shall enter into the house, that he may live? 12And I observed, and, behold, God had not sent him, for the prophecy was a fable [devised] against me: 13and Tobias and Sanaballat had hired against me a multitude, that I might be frightened, and do this, and sin, and become to them an ill name, that they might reproach me. 14Remember, O God, Tobias and Sanaballat, according to these their deeds, and the prophetess Noadia, and the rest of the prophets who tried to alarm me. 15So the wall was finished on the twenty-fifth day of the [month] Elul, in fifty-two days. 16And it came to pass, when all our enemies heard [of it], that all the nations round about us feared, and great alarm fell upon them, and they knew that it was of our God that this work should be finished. 17And in those days letters came to Tobias from many nobles of Juda, and those of Tobias came to them. 18For many in Juda were bound to him by oath, because he was son-in-law of Sechenias the son of Herae; and Jonan his son had taken the daughter of Mesulam the son of Barachia to wife. 19And they reported his words to me, and carried out my words to him: and Tobias sent letters to terrify me. Chapter 71And it came to pass, when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed, 2that I gave charge to Ananias my brother, and Ananias the ruler of the palace, over Jerusalem: for he was a true man, and one that feared God beyond many. 3And I said to them, The gates of Jerusalem shall not be opened till sunrise; and while they are still watching, let the doors be shut, and bolted; and set watches of them that dwell in Jerusalem, [every] man at his post, and [every] man over against his house. 4Now the city [was] wide and large; and the people [were] few in it, and the houses were not built. 5And God put [it] into my heart, and I gathered the nobles, and the rulers, and the people, into companies: and I found a register of the company that came up first, and I found written in it as follows: 6Now these [are] the children of the country, that came up from captivity, of the number which Nabuchodonosor king of Babylon carried away, and they returned to Jerusalem and to Juda, [every] man to his city; 7with Zorobabel, and Jesus, and Neemia, Azaria, and Reelma, Naemani, Mardochaeus, Balsan, Maspharath, Esdra, Boguia, Inaum, Baana, Masphar, men of the people of Israel. 8The children of Phoros, two thousand one hundred and seventy-two. 9The children of Saphatia, three hundred and seventy-two. 10The children of Era, six hundred and fifty-two. 11The children of Phaath Moab, with the children of Jesus and Joab, two thousand six hundred and eighteen. 12The children of Aelam, a thousand two hundred and fifty-four. 13The children of Zathuia, eight hundred and forty-five. 14The children of Zacchu, seven hundred and sixty. 15The children of Banui, six hundred and forty-eight. 16The children of Bebi, six hundred and twenty-eight. 17The children of Asgad, two thousand three hundred and twenty-two. 18The children of Adonicam, six hundred and sixty-seven. 19The children of Bagoi, two thousand and sixty-seven. 20The children of Edin, six hundred and fifty-five. 21The children of Ater, [the son] of Ezekias, ninety-eight. 22The children of Esam, three hundred and twenty-eight. 23The children of Besei, three hundred and twenty-four. 24The children of Ariph, a hundred and twelve: the children of Asen, two hundred and twenty-three. 25The children of Gabaon, ninety-five. 26The children of Baethalem, a hundred and twenty-three: the children of Atopha, fifty-six. 27The children of Anathoth, a hundred and twenty-eight. 28The men of Bethasmoth, forty-two. 29The men of Cariatharim, Caphira, and Beroth, seven hundred and forty-three. 30The men of Arama and Gabaa, six hundred and twenty. 31The men of Machemas, a hundred and twenty-two. 32The men of Baethel and Ai, a hundred and twenty-three. 33The men of Nabia, a hundred an fifty-two. 34The men of Elamaar, one thousand two hundred and fifty-two. 35The children of Eram, three hundred and twenty. 36The children of Jericho, three hundred and forty-five. 37The children of Lodadid and Ono, seven hundred and twenty-one. 38The children of Sanana, three thousand nine hundred and thirty. 39The priests; Psalm 88:5–10(MT: 89)

MT Psalm 89 = LXX Psalm 88 (standard offset).

5I will establish thy seed for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Pause. 6The heavens shall declare thy wonders, O Lord; and thy truth in the assembly of the saints. 7For who in the heavens shall be compared to the Lord? and who shall be likened to the Lord among the sons of God? 8God is glorified in the council of the saints; great and terrible toward all that are round about him. 9O Lord God of hosts, who is like to thee? thou art mighty, O Lord, and thy truth is round about thee. 10Thou rulest the power of the sea; and thou calmest the tumult of its waves.

Proverbs 21:28

28A false witness shall perish; but an obedient man will speak cautiously.
New TestamentKing James Version

Acts 27:1–26

1And when it was determined that we should sail into Italy, they delivered Paul and certain other prisoners unto one named Julius, a centurion of Augustus’ band. 2And entering into a ship of Adramyttium, we launched, meaning to sail by the coasts of Asia; one Aristarchus, a Macedonian of Thessalonica, being with us. 3And the next day we touched at Sidon. And Julius courteously entreated Paul, and gave him liberty to go unto his friends to refresh himself. 4And when we had launched from thence, we sailed under Cyprus, because the winds were contrary. 5And when we had sailed over the sea of Cilicia and Pamphylia, we came to Myra, a city of Lycia. 6And there the centurion found a ship of Alexandria sailing into Italy; and he put us therein. 7And when we had sailed slowly many days, and scarce were come over against Cnidus, the wind not suffering us, we sailed under Crete, over against Salmone; 8And, hardly passing it, came unto a place which is called The fair havens; nigh whereunto was the city of Lasea. 9Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them, 10And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives. 11Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul. 12And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more part advised to depart thence also, if by any means they might attain to Phenice, and there to winter; which is an haven of Crete, and lieth toward the south west and north west. 13And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, loosing thence, they sailed close by Crete. 14But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon. 15And when the ship was caught, and could not bear up into the wind, we let her drive. 16And running under a certain island which is called Clauda, we had much work to come by the boat: 17Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands, strake sail, and so were driven. 18And we being exceedingly tossed with a tempest, the next day they lightened the ship; 19And the third day we cast out with our own hands the tackling of the ship. 20And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away. 21But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss. 22And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man’s life among you, but of the ship. 23For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, 24Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Cesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee. 25Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me. 26Howbeit we must be cast upon a certain island.
