A Staff or a Bed? The Word Your Bible Changed | Hebrews 11

@sovereignlogos·June 16, 2026
A dying man leans on a staff and worships. That is how your New Testament remembers Jacob: "leaning upon the top of his staff." Now read the same moment in Genesis on your shelf: "Israel bowed himself upon the bed's head." A staff in one testament, a bed in the other, the same word, one letter of difference in how later scribes marked the vowels. The Septuagint read staff. The apostle quoted staff. And John Calvin looked at that one word and drew a conclusion that should shake every claim you have heard about a perfect Hebrew text. In this episode we read Hebrews 11 in full (KJV), the chapter men call the hall of faith, then ask the question it is built to answer: are these strangers from an older, different religion, or are they your own family? You will hear the two Septuagint witnesses in this chapter (Enoch "translated," Jacob's "staff"), why Moses suffered "the reproach of Christ" centuries before Bethlehem, and the two verses that close the family question for good: they without us shall not be made perfect. One body. One crowning. One day. The daily line reads one chapter every day: the full chapter aloud first, then what the church has always seen in it. ▶ Read along at: https://sovereignlogos.com ▶ Yesterday (Hebrews 10): https://youtu.be/ur3ouuNZtMo ▶ Subscribe for tomorrow's chapter: @SovereignLogos ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ WHAT YOU WILL HEAR • The full text of Hebrews 11, every verse, read aloud. • Jacob's "staff" vs the Masoretic "bed": one word, late vowel points, and what Calvin concluded about the Hebrew text. • Enoch "was not found, because God translated him": the Septuagint reading the apostle kept. • Moses and "the reproach of Christ" centuries before Bethlehem: Christ was present, known, and worth losing Egypt for. • Verses 39-40: the patriarchs are not made perfect without us. One church from Abel forward, against any scheme that splits God's people in two. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ABOUT THIS CHANNEL Sovereign Logos publishes the Septuagint - the Greek Old Testament quoted by Jesus, the apostles, and the early church fathers - as the unadulterated Scripture.
