Hebrews 3:1-19 (King James Version) The bones of an entire generation bleached in the desert because they would not believe. You are standing in the same sand. Hebrews 3 pivots from who Christ is to what you will do about it. The Son was faithful over God's house as a Son, not as a servant like Moses. Moses was faithful in the house. Christ built the house. And if God shut the door on an entire generation that hardened their hearts in the wilderness, how much worse for those who harden their hearts against the Son? The Holy Ghost speaks today. Not yesterday. Not in the past. Today. Hebrews 2 proved God became man. Hebrews 3 asks: what will you do about it? The writer quotes Psalm 95 and forces the original audience to see themselves in the wilderness generation. Israel saw God's works for forty years. They heard His voice. They watched the Red Sea part and manna fall from heaven. And they still hardened their hearts. Their carcasses fell in the desert. They never entered the Promised Land. Not because God was unable, but because they would not believe. The warning is not historical. The Holy Ghost says "to day." The same hardening that killed a generation in the sand is available to you right now, today, through the deceitfulness of sin.
