Hebrews 5:1-14 (King James Version) The Son did not seize the priesthood. He was appointed, and He was perfected through suffering you cannot imagine. If that does not hold your attention, you are still drinking milk. Every high priest is taken from among men, compassed with infirmity, called by God. But the Son was called to something older and greater: the order of Melchisedec, a priesthood that predates Aaron and Levi. In the days of his flesh, he offered prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears. He was heard. He suffered. And through that suffering he was made perfect and became the author of eternal salvation. Then the rebuke: you should be teachers by now, but you are still on milk. Strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age. -- WHY THIS CHAPTER MATTERS The center of Hebrews 5 is not theology. It is Gethsemane. The Son, in the days of his flesh, wept and cried out to him that was able to save him from death. He was heard. And yet he suffered. Through that suffering he learned obedience and was made perfect. The author of eternal salvation is someone who wept in a garden and walked the road anyway. If the Melchisedec priesthood and Gethsemane do not hold your attention, you are still drinking milk.
