Hebrews 7: The Priest With No Father, Mother, or Beginning
@sovereignlogos·June 16, 2026
Who is this king with no father, no mother, no beginning of days, and no end of life? Within a hundred years of Hebrews being written, a sect in Rome read this chapter and concluded the priest in it was greater than Jesus Christ himself. The church condemned them. But the question they got wrong has never fully been put to rest, and some in the early church gave an answer that may surprise you.
In this episode we read Hebrews chapter 7 in full (KJV), then open the question the chapter is built on: was Melchisedec a type of Christ, or the pre-incarnate Christ himself? You will hear Jerome's remarkable letter surveying what the church fathers believed, the Septuagint's Psalm 109:4 (the verse this whole chapter preaches from, numbered Psalm 110 in Bibles that follow the later Hebrew text), and why the change of the priesthood means a change of the covenant.
The daily line reads one chapter every day: the full chapter aloud first, then what the church has always seen in it.
