The whip did not clear the temple. Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown say it plainly: not by this slender whip but by divine majesty was the ejection accomplished. One man, a market full of merchants and animals, and they all ran. They did not flee a weapon. They fled the authority of the Son, standing in his own Father's house.
