Present tense. Already. Not a future hope on a separate timetable, the believing Hebrews had already arrived, and so, in Christ, have you. And on the way there, the apostle quotes Proverbs 3:12 in a form your Protestant Old Testament does not contain, the Septuagint's "scourgeth every son whom he receiveth." Adam Clarke examined the difference and wrote that "our version of Proverbs 3:12 is wrong." Bengel: "the apostle retained it." Chrysostom built his whole doctrine of sonship on it sixteen centuries ago. Three times in this one chapter the inspired pen goes where the Greek scriptures pointed, not the later Hebrew. The race, the rod of a Father who scourges every true son, Esau's forfeited birthright handed to the whole church, the two mountains, and the kingdom that cannot be moved. "For our God is a consuming fire." ▶ Yesterday (Hebrews 11): https://youtu.be/vdE0gByuJMw ▶ The Book of Hebrews playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMO-m3m19L1Au0mBOPjDcaqijgH9HJxTy #Hebrews12 #Septuagint #MountSion #KJV #DailyBibleReading #BibleStudy #BookOfHebrews #ChristIsKing #SovereignLogos
