Your Bible Changed What This Psalm Says | Hebrews 10

@sovereignlogos·June 16, 2026
When the Son of God stepped into the world, scripture gives him a Psalm to say: "Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me." A body. Now open Psalm 40 in the Old Testament on your shelf and that line is gone, it says "mine ears hast thou opened." Ears, not a body. The Septuagint, the Greek scriptures the apostles read, says body, and the Holy Ghost put the Septuagint's wording into the mouth of Christ himself. This is not a footnote. Hebrews 10 is the chapter where the one sacrifice for sins for ever stands or falls, and it stands on the Greek. In this episode we read Hebrews 10 in full (KJV), then follow that one word: what Calvin, Barnes, Clarke, Poole, and Jamieson, Fausset, and Brown all conceded about the apostle's source, why a body and not opened ears matters for who Christ is, and what it means that there is no more offering for sin, both the comfort of it and the warning. The daily line reads one chapter every day: the full chapter aloud first, then what the church has always seen in it. ▶ Read along at: https://sovereignlogos.com ▶ Yesterday (Hebrews 9): https://youtu.be/CEC6FuvCYBU ▶ Subscribe for tomorrow's chapter: @SovereignLogos ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ WHAT YOU WILL HEAR • The full text of Hebrews 10, every verse, read aloud. • "A body hast thou prepared me" vs "mine ears hast thou opened": the LXX reading the apostle quoted, and the five commentators who admit it. • Why the change matters for Christ himself: a body prepared is the incarnation and the cross; opened ears is not. • "It is finished" — tetelestai — and the one sacrifice that sat down because the work was done. • No more offering for sin: the comfort, and the warning of 10:26, fenced from despair by the old shepherds. • "The just shall live by faith," from Habakkuk, again according to the Septuagint. ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ ABOUT THIS CHANNEL Sovereign Logos publishes the Septuagint - the Greek Old Testament quoted by Jesus, the apostles, and the early church fathers - as the unadulterated Scripture.
