The Book of Esther in your Bible opens at the wrong verse. The Masoretes — the Jewish scribes who produced the Hebrew text most English Bibles translate from — deleted the first forty-seven verses of chapter one. In those deleted verses: Mordecai's prophetic dream of two serpents warring across the earth, the assassination plot he uncovered inside the palace, the king rewarding him, and the real origin of Haman's grudge. Mordecai's prophetic dream and the eunuch assassination plot (chapter 1, 47 verses) — covered in this episode 2. The actual text of Haman's decree condemning the Jews (chapter 3, 7 verses) 3. The prayers of Mordecai and Esther, where the name of the Almighty returns to the book (chapter 4, 30 verses) — Part 2 of this series 4. Esther collapsing before the king (chapter 5, 16 verses) — Part 3 5. The king's reversal decree naming the Jews as God's chosen (chapter 8, 24 verses) 6. The interpretation of Mordecai's dream, restoring the theological frame (chapter 10, 11 verses) Total deleted: 330+ verses. Every one preserved in the Greek Septuagint that Jesus and the Apostles read. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ WHO WERE THE MASORETES ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Jewish scribes working in Tiberias between the 7th and 10th centuries of the Christian era. They standardized the Hebrew text, added vowel-pointing marks that could redirect Messianic prophecies, and rejected the Greek Septuagint the early Church had been using. Their text became the basis for every Protestant Old Testament translation. The Septuagint predates them by a thousand years. It was translated in Alexandria around 250 BC, read in synagogues across the Greek-speaking Roman Empire, quoted by the Apostles in the New Testament more than three hundred times, and preserved without alteration by the Eastern Orthodox Church for two thousand years.
