1And Azarias the son of Oded—upon him came the Spirit of the Lord,
1The Spirit of God came on Azariah the son of Oded.
2and he went out to meet Asa, and all Juda and Benjamin, and said , Hear me, Asa, and all Juda and Benjamin. The Lord [is] with you, while ye are with him; and if ye seek him out, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.
2He went out to meet Asa, and said to him, “Hear me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin! Yahweh is with you while you are with him; and if you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will forsake you.
3And Israel [has been] a long time without the true God, and without a priest to expound [the truth], and without the law.
3Now for a long time Israel was without the true God, without a teaching priest, and without law.
4But he shall turn them to the Lord God of Israel, and he will be found of them.
4But when in their distress they turned to Yahweh, the God of Israel, and sought him, he was found by them.
5And in that time there is no peace to one going out, or to one coming in, for the terror of the Lord is upon all that inhabit the lands.
5In those times there was no peace to him who went out, nor to him who came in; but great troubles were on all the inhabitants of the lands.
6And nation shall fight against nation, and city against city; for God has confounded them with every [kind of] affliction.
6They were broken in pieces, nation against nation, and city against city; for God troubled them with all adversity.
7But be ye strong, and let not your hands be weakened: for there is a reward for your work .
7But you be strong! Don’t let your hands be slack, for your work will be rewarded.”
8And when [Asa] heard these words, and the prophecy of Adad the prophet, then he strengthened himself, and cast out the abominations from all the land of Juda and Benjamin, and from the cities which Jeroboam possessed, in mount Ephraim, and he renewed the altar of the Lord, which was before the temple of the Lord.
8When Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominations out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from the hill country of Ephraim; and he renewed Yahweh’s altar that was before Yahweh’s porch.
9And he assembled Juda and Benjamin, and the strangers that dwelt with him, of Ephraim, and of Manasse, and of Symeon: for many of Israel were joined to him, when they saw that the Lord his God was with him.
9He gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and those who lived with them out of Ephraim, Manasseh, and Simeon; for they came to him out of Israel in abundance when they saw that Yahweh his God was with him.
10And they assembled at Jerusalem in the third month, in the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa.
10So they gathered themselves together at Jerusalem in the third month, in the fifteenth year of Asa’s reign.
11And he sacrificed to the Lord in that dayof the spoils which they brought, seven hundred calves and seven thousand sheep.

16And he removed Maacha his mother from being priestess to Astarte; and he cut down the idol, and burnt it in the brook of Kedron.
16Also Maacah, the mother of Asa the king, he removed from being queen mother, because she had made an abominable image for an Asherah; so Asa cut down her image, ground it into dust, and burned it at the brook Kidron.
17Nevertheless they removed not the high places: they still existed in Israel: nevertheless the heart of Asa was perfect all his days.

18And he brought in the holy things of David his father, and the holy things of the house of God, silver, and gold, and vessels .

2And Asa took silver and gold out of the treasures of the house of the Lord, and of the king's house, and sent [them] to the son of Ader king of Syria, which dwelt in Damascus, saying,
2Then Asa brought out silver and gold out of the treasures of Yahweh’s house and of the king’s house, and sent to Ben Hadad king of Syria, who lived at Damascus, saying,
3Make a covenant between me and thee, and between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent thee gold and silver: come, and turn away from me Baasa king of Israel, and let him depart from me.
3“Let there be a treaty between me and you, as there was between my father and your father. Behold, I have sent you silver and gold. Go, break your treaty with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.”
4And the son of Ader hearkened to king Asa, and sent the captains of his host against the cities of Israel; and smote Æon, and Dan, and Abelmain, and all the country round Nephthali.
4Ben Hadad listened to King Asa, and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel; and they struck Ijon, Dan, Abel Maim, and all the storage cities of Naphtali.
5And it came to pass when Baasa heard [it], he left off building Rama, and put a stop to his work:
5When Baasha heard of it, he stopped building Ramah, and let his work cease.
6then king Asa took all Juda, and took the stones of Rama, and its timber , [with] which Baasa [had] built; and he built with them Gabae and Maspha.
6Then Asa the king took all Judah, and they carried away the stones and timber of Ramah, with which Baasha had built; and he built Geba and Mizpah with them.
7And at that time came Anani the prophet to Asa king of Juda, and said to him, Because thou didst trust on the king of Syria, and didst not trust on the Lord thy God, therefore the army of Syria is escaped out of thy hand.
7At that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said to him, “Because you have relied on the king of Syria, and have not relied on Yahweh your God, therefore the army of the king of Syria has escaped out of your hand.
8Were not the Ethiopians and Libyans a great force, in courage, in horsemen, in great numbers? and did not He deliver them into thy hands, because thou trustedst in the Lord?
8Weren’t the Ethiopians and the Lubim a huge army, with chariots and exceedingly many horsemen? Yet, because you relied on Yahweh, he delivered them into your hand.
9For the eyes of the Lord look upon all the earth, to strengthen every heart that is perfect toward him. In this thou hast done foolishly ; henceforth there shall be war with thee.
9For Yahweh’s eyes run back and forth throughout the whole earth, to show himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. You have done foolishly in this; for from now on you will have wars.”
10And Asa was angry with the prophet, and put him in prison, for he was angry at this: and Asa vexed some of the people at that time.
10Then Asa was angry with the seer, and put him in the prison; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing. Asa oppressed some of the people at the same time.
11And, behold, the acts of Asa, the first and the last, [are] written in the book of the kings of Juda and Israel.

12And Asa was diseased [in] his feet in the thirty-ninth year of his reign, until he was very ill: but in his disease he sought not to the Lord, but to the physicians.
12In the thirty-ninth year of his reign, Asa was diseased in his feet. His disease was exceedingly great; yet in his disease he didn’t seek Yahweh, but just the physicians.
13And Asa slept with his fathers, and died in the fortieth year of his reign.

14And they buried him in the sepulchre which he had dug for himself in the city of David, and they laid him on a bed, and filled [it] with spices and [all] kinds of perfumes of the apothecaries; and they made for him a very great funeral.
