In Matthew 10, Jesus calls his twelve disciples, giving them authority against "unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all manner of sickness and all manner of disease." The names of the twelve apostles include Simon Peter, Andrew, James the son of Zebedee, and others. Jesus instructs them not to go into the way of the Gentiles but rather to the "lost sheep of the house of Israel." The central message they are to preach is that "the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Jesus commands them to heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, and cast out devils. They are warned to take no extra provisions for their journey, trusting that "the workman is worthy of his meat." Noteworthy lines include the instruction to be "wise as serpents, and harmless as doves," and the severe warning that it "shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment" than for any city that rejects them. The chapter provides guidance for dealing with opposition and persecution. → Matthew 10:1-18 Read the whole Bible, Septuagint and KJV side by side, at sovereignlogos.com Free Bible app: sovereignlogos.com/app #matthew10 #biblereading #kjv #apostles #kingdomofheaven #jesusinstructions #disciples #christianity #newtestament #bible
