Matthew 15 (KJV) Read Aloud | Daily Bible Reading
@sovereignlogos·October 1, 2026
Matthew 15 begins with scribes and Pharisees from Jerusalem questioning Jesus about why his disciples do not follow the tradition of washing hands before eating. Jesus responds by challenging their adherence to traditions that transgress the commandments of God, specifically mentioning the commandment, 'Honour thy father and mother.' He reproaches them for nullifying God’s commandment with their traditions, quoting Isaiah, 'This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth... but their heart is far from me.' Jesus teaches the multitude that it is not what enters the mouth that defiles a man, but rather what comes out of it, as it reveals the heart's condition. His disciples express concern over offending the Pharisees, to which Jesus replies that the Pharisees are like 'blind leaders of the blind.' This chapter also highlights the disciples' struggle to understand the teachings, with Jesus explaining that evil thoughts and deeds, such as 'murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies,' are what truly defile a person. The chapter emphasizes the contrast between divine commandments and human traditions.
