Matthew 16 (KJV) Read Aloud | Daily Bible Reading

In Matthew 16, the Pharisees and Sadducees approach Jesus seeking a sign from heaven. Jesus responds by criticizing their ability to understand signs, reminding them that 'a wicked and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign,' but only the 'sign of the prophet Jonas' would be given. Later, Jesus warns his disciples to 'beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees,' which they eventually understand as a warning against their doctrine, not literal bread. When Jesus arrives at the coasts of Cesarea Philippi, he questions his disciples about his identity. Peter famously declares, 'Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God,' a revelation Jesus acknowledges as divinely inspired. This chapter illustrates moments of teaching and revelation, pivotal for understanding Jesus' interactions and the recognition of his divine nature by his followers.
