In Matthew 2, wise men from the east come to Jerusalem seeking "he that is born King of the Jews," having seen his star. This star leads them to Bethlehem, where Jesus has been born during the reign of Herod the king. Herod, disturbed by the news, gathers the chief priests and scribes to inquire where the Christ was to be born. They refer to the prophetic writing indicating Bethlehem as the birthplace. Herod instructs the wise men to search diligently for the young child and report back to him. The wise men follow the star to where the child is, and they rejoice with "exceeding great joy." Upon entering the house, they find Jesus with Mary, his mother, and worship him, presenting gifts of "gold, and frankincense, and myrrh." Warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they depart to their country another way. Subsequently, an angel of the Lord appears to Joseph in a dream, instructing him to take Mary and Jesus and flee to Egypt to escape Herod's plan to destroy the child. Joseph obeys, leaving by night for Egypt. → Matthew 2:1-14 Read the whole Bible, Septuagint and KJV side by side, at sovereignlogos.com Free Bible app: sovereignlogos.com/app #jesusbirth #matthewchapter2 #biblicalstory #wiseandherod #magiandjesus #biblicalprophecy #jesusinbethlehem #goldfrankincensemyrrh #angeltojoesph #bibleescapetoegept
