In Matthew 23, Jesus delivers a stern rebuke to the scribes and Pharisees, highlighting their hypocrisy and warning His followers against imitating their behaviors. In this passage, Jesus speaks to the multitude and His disciples, stating that the scribes and Pharisees "sit in Moses' seat." Therefore, He advises, "All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not." Jesus criticizes these leaders for their relentless pursuit of recognition, as they make "broad their phylacteries" and seek "the uppermost rooms at feasts." He warns against seeking titles, advising His followers not to be called "Rabbi" or "father upon the earth," emphasizing that "one is your Father, which is in heaven." The chapter contains a series of woes directed at the scribes and Pharisees for their actions, such as shutting up the kingdom of heaven against men and devouring widows' houses while making long prayers. Jesus also condemns their focus on material wealth over spiritual truth, pointing out their blindness in considering the gold of the temple more significant than the temple itself. → Matthew 23:1-19 Read the whole Bible, Septuagint and KJV side by side, at sovereignlogos.com Free Bible app: sovereignlogos.com/app #matthew23kjv #phariseeshypocrisy #jesusrebukes #biblereading #woeuntouscribes #phariseesrebuke #jesusteaching #newtestamentreading
