Matthew 3 (KJV) Read Aloud | Daily Bible Reading

In Matthew 3, John the Baptist emerges as a significant figure, preaching in the wilderness of Judea with a powerful call for repentance, declaring, "for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." This announcement fulfills the prophecy of Esaias, describing John as "the voice of one crying in the wilderness" who prepares "the way of the Lord." John's austere lifestyle, wearing camel’s hair and eating locusts and wild honey, draws people from Jerusalem, Judea, and the region around Jordan to be baptized by him, confessing their sins. He confronts the Pharisees and Sadducees, labeling them a "generation of vipers" and urging them to produce "fruits meet for repentance." John warns that God can raise "children unto Abraham" from stones and that the axe is ready to cut down trees not bearing good fruit. He distinguishes his baptism with water from the one who will come to baptize "with the Holy Ghost, and with fire." Jesus arrives from Galilee to be baptized by John. Initially hesitant, John consents after Jesus insists it is necessary "to fulfil all righteousness." Following the baptism, the Spirit of God descends "like a dove" upon Jesus, and a voice from heaven pronounces, "This is my beloved Son." → Matthew 3:1-17 Read the whole Bible, Septuagint and KJV side by side, at sovereignlogos.com Free Bible app: sovereignlogos.com/app #johnbaptistpreaching #kingdomofheaven #repentanceandbaptism #jesusbaptized #spiritdescendsdove #belovedsonvoice
