Matthew 8 narrates the powerful miracles and teachings of Jesus, showcasing His divine authority and compassion. When Jesus descends from the mountain, a leper approaches Him with faith, saying, 'Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.' Jesus responds by healing the leper, instructing him to follow the Mosaic law by presenting himself to the priest. As Jesus enters Capernaum, a Roman centurion approaches, demonstrating remarkable faith. He believes that Jesus can heal his servant from a distance, saying, 'but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.' Jesus commends his faith, stating that such faith has not been found even in Israel. This chapter also includes the healing of Peter’s mother-in-law, who is sick with a fever, and Jesus' casting out of spirits with His word, fulfilling the prophecy of Isaiah. Jesus acknowledges that many will come from the east and west to join the patriarchs in the kingdom of heaven, while warning that some children of the kingdom will face outer darkness. This powerful chapter illustrates Jesus' authority over sickness and His recognition of faith beyond traditional boundaries. → Matthew 8:1-34.
