1LEt vs now commende the famous men, and our fathers, of whome we are begotten. 2The Lord hathe gotten great glorie by them, and that through his great power from the beginning. 3Thei haue borne rule in their kingdomes, and were renoumed for their power, and were wise in counsel, and declared prophecies. 4They gouerned the people by counsel & by the knowledge of learning mete for the people, in whose doctrine were wise sentences. 5They inuented the melodie of musicke, and expounded the verses that were writen. 6They were riche and mightie in power, and liued quietly at home. 7All these were honorable men in their generacions, & were wel reported of in their times. 8There are of them that haue left a name behinde them, so that their praise shal be spoken of. 9There are some also which haue no memorial, and are perished, as thogh they had neuer bene, and are become as thogh they had neuer bene borne, and their children after them. 10But the former were merciful men, whose righteousnes hathe not bene forgotten. 11For whose posteritie a good inheritance is reserued, and their sede is conteined in the couenant. 12Their stocke is conteined in the couenant, and their posteritie after them. 13Their sede shal remaine for euer, & their praise shal neuer be taken away. 14Their bodies are buryed in peace, but their name liueth for euermore. 15The people speake of their wisdome, & the congregacion talke of their praise. 16Enoch pleased the Lord God: therefore was he translated for an example of repentance to the generacions. 17Noe was founde perfite, and in the time of wrath he had a rewarde: therefore was he left as a remnant vnto the earth, when the flood came. 18An euerlasting couenant was made with him, that all flesh shulde perish no more by the flood. 19Abraham was a great father of manie people: in glorie was there none like vnto him. 20He kept the Law of the moste High, & was in couenant with him, and he set the couenant in his flesh, and in tentation he was founde faithful. 21Therefore he assured him by an othe, that he wolde blesse the nacions in his sede, & that he wolde multiplie him as the dust of the earth, and exalte his sede as the starres, and cause them to inherite from sea to sea, and from the Riuer vnto the end of the worlde. 22With Isaac did he confirme likewise for Abraham his fathers sake, the blessing of all men, and the couenant, 23And caused it to rest vpon the head of Iacob, and made him self knowen by his blessings, and gaue him an heritage and deuided his porcions, and parted them among the twelue tribes. 24And he broght out of him a merciful man, which founde fauour in the sight of all flesh.
