1I Wil confesse thee, ô Lord and King, and praise thee, ô God, my Sauiour: I giue thankes vnto thy Name. 2For thou art my defender and helper, and hast preserued my bodie from destruction, and from the snare of the sclanderous tongue, and from the lippes that are occupied with lies: thou hast holpen me against mine aduersaries, 3And hast deliuered me according to the multitude of thy mercie, and for thy Names sake, from the roaring of them that were readie to deuoure me, and out of the hands of suche as soght after my life, and from the manifolde afflictions, which I had, 4And from the fyre that choked me rounde about, and from the middes of the fyre that I burned not, 5And from the botome of the belie of hel, from an vncleane tongue, from lying wordes, from false accusation to the King, & from the sclander of an vnrighteous tongue. 6[My soule shal praise the Lord vnto death:] for my soule drewe nere vnto death: my life was nere to the hel beneth. 7They compassed me on euerie side, & there was no man to helpe me: I loked for the succour of men, but there was none. 8Then thoght I vpon thy mercie, ô Lord, and vpon thine actes of olde, how thou deliuerest suche as waite for thee, and sauest them out of the hands of the enemies. 9Then lift I vp my prayer from the earth, and praied for deliuerance from death. 10I called vpon the Lord the father of my Lord, that he wolde not leaue me in the daye of my trouble, and in the time of the proude without helpe. 11I wil praise thy Name continually, and wil sing praise with thankesgiuing: & my prayer was heard. 12Thou sauedst me from destruction, and deliueredst me from the euil time: therefore wil I giue thankes and praise thee, & blesse the Name of the Lord. 13When I was yet yong, or euer I went abroad, I desired wisdome openly in my praier. 14I praied for her before the Temple, and soght after her vnto farre countreis, and she was as a grape that waxeth ripe out of the floure. 15Mine heart reioyced in her: my foote walked in the right way, & from my youth vp soght I after her. 16I bowed somewhat downe mine eare, & receiued her, & gate me muche wisdome: 17And I profited by her: therefore wil I ascribe the glorie vnto him, that giueth me wisdome. 18For I am aduised to do thereafter: I wil be ielous of that that is good: so shal I not be confounded. 20I directed my soule vnto her, and I founde her in purenes: I haue had mine heart ioyned with her from the beginning: therefore shal I not be forsaken. 21My bowels are troubled in seking her: therefore haue I gotten a good possession. 22The Lord hathe giuen me a tongue for my rewarde, wherewith I wil praise him. 23Drawe nere vnto me, ye vnlearned, and dwell in the house of learning. 24Wherefore are ye slowe? and what say you of these things, seing your soules are very thirstie? 25I opened my mouth, and said, Bye her for you without money. 26Bowe downe your necke vnder the yoke, & your soule shal receiue instruction: she is ready that ye may finde her. 27Beholde with your eyes, how that I haue had but litle labour, & haue gotten vnto me muche rest. 28Get learning with a great some of money: for by her ye shal possesse muche golde. 29Let your soule reioyce in the mercie of the Lord, and be not ashamed of his praise. 30Do your duetie betimes, and he wil giue you a rewarde at his time.
