1BE not ielous ouer thy wife of thy bosome , nether teache her by thy meanes an euil lesson. 2Giue not thy life vnto a woman,lest she ouercome thy strength , [and so thou be confounded.] 3Mete not an harlot,lest thou fall into her snares. 4Vse not the companie of a woman that is a singer, [& a dancer,nether heare her,] lest thou be taken by her craftines. 5Gaze not on a maide, that thou fall not by that that is precious in her. 6Cast not thy minde vpon harlots [in anie maner of thing, ] lest thou destroye [bothe thy self and] thine heritage. 7Go not about gazing in the streates of the citie, nether wander thou in the secret places thereof. 8Turne awaye thine eye from a beautiful woman,and loke not vpon others beautie: for manie haue perished by the beautie of women:for thorow it loue is kindled as a fyre. 9[Euerie woman that is an harlot, shalbe trodden vnder fote as dongue,of euerie one that goeth by the waye. 10Many wondering at the beautie of a strange woman, haue bene cast out: for her wordes burne as a fyre.] 11Sit not at all with another mans wife, [nether lie with her vpon the bed,] nor banket with her, lest thine heart incline vnto her, and so through thy desire fall into destruction. 12¶Forsake not an olde friend: for the new shal not be like him: a newe friend is as newe wine:when it is olde,thou shalt drinke it with pleasure. 13Desire not the honour [& riches] of a sinner:for thou knowest not what shalbe his end. 14Delite not in the thing that the vngodlie haue pleasure in,but remember that they shal not be founde iust vnto their graue. 15Kepe thee from the man that hathe power to slaye : so shalt thou not doute the feare of death:and if thou come vnto him,make no faute,lest he take away thy life:remember that thou goest in the middes of snares, and that thou walkest vpon the towres of the citie. 16Trye thy neighbour as nere as thou canst, and aske counsel of the wise. 17Let thy talke be with the wise , & all thy communication in the Law of the moste High. 18Let iust men eat and drinke with thee, and let thy reioycing be in the feare of the Lord. 19In the hands of the craftesmen shal the workes be commended,and the wise prince of the people by his worde, [& the worde by the wisdome of the Elders.] 20A man ful of wordes is dangerous in his citie, and he that is rash in his talking, shalbe hated.
