1[The children of wisdome are the Church of the righteous, & their ofspring is obedience and loue.] 2Heare your fathers iudgement, ô children, and do thereafter, that ye may be safe. 3For the Lord wil haue the father honored of he children, and hathe confirmed the autoritie of the mother ouer the children. 4Who so honoreth his father, his sinnes shalbe forgiuen him, [and he shal absteine from them, & shal haue his daily desires.] 5And he that honoreth his mother, is like one that gathereth treasure. 6Who so honoreth his father, shal haue ioye of his owne children, & when he maketh his prayer, he shalbe heard. 7He that honoreth his father, shal haue a long life, and he that is obedient vnto the Lord, shal comfort his mother. 8He that feareth the Lord, honoreth his parents, and doeth seruice vnto his parents, as vnto lords. 9Honour thy father and mother in dede and in worde [& in all pacience,] that thou maist haue Gods blessing, [& that his blessing may abide with thee in the end.] 10For the blessing of the father establisheth the houses of the children, & the mothers curse rotteth out the fundacions. 11Reioyce not at the dishonour of thy father: for it is not honour vnto thee, but shame. 12Seing that mans glorie cometh by his fathers honour, & the reproche of the mother is dishonour to the children, 13My sonne, helpe thy father in his age, and greue him not as long as he liueth. 14And if his vnderstanding faile, haue pacience with him, & despise him not when thou art in thy ful strength. 15For the good intreatie of thy father shal not be forgotten, but it shalbe a forteres for thee against sinnes, [and for thy mothers offence thou shalt be recompensed with good, and it shalbe founded for thee in righteousnes.] 16And in the day of trouble thou shalt be remembred: thy sinnes also shal melt away as the yce in the faire wether. 17He that forsaketh his father, shal come to shame, and he that angreth his mother, is curssed of God. 18¶My sonne, performe thy doings with mekenes, so shalt thou be beloued of them that are approued. 19The greater thou art, the more humble thy self [in all things,] & thou shalt finde fauour before the Lord. 20Many are excellent & of renoume: but the secrets are reueiled vnto the meke. 21For the power of the Lord is great, & he is honored of the lowlie. 22Seke not out the things that are to hard for thee, nether searche the things rashly which are to mightie for thee. 24Be not curious in superfluous things: for many things are shewed vnto thee aboue the capacitie of men. 25The medling with suche hathe beguiled many, and an euil opinion hathe deceiued their iudgement. 26Thou canst not se without eyes: professe not the knowledge therefore that thou hast not. 27A stubberne heart shal fare euil at the last: and he that loueth danger, shal perish therein. 28An heart that goeth two waies, shal not prosper: and he that is frowarde of heart, shal stumble therein. 29An obstinate heart shalbe laden with sorowes: and the wicked man shal heape sinne vpon sinne. 30The persuasion of the proude is without remedie, & his steppes shalbe plucked vp: for the plant of sinne hathe taken roote in him, [and he shal not be estemed.] 31The heart of him that hathe vnderstanding, shal perceiue secret things, and an attentiue eare is the desire of a wise man. 32[An heart that is wise & vnderstanding, wil absteine from sinne, and shal prosper in the workes of righteousnes.] 33Water quencheth burning fyre, and almes taketh away sinnes. 34And he that rewardeth good dedes, wil remember it afterward, & in the time of the fall, he shal finde a staye.
